Thankful Thursday

Hmm. Thursday again. Okay... today I'm grateful for

• whatever shreds of motivation I can scrape together,
• Colleen's new health care team,
• the occasional clear night when the stars are glorious and the sky is so clear you could fall into it,
• Linux weekly news,
• the little progress I was able to make on FAWM. Maybe next year.

I'm grateful for my iPad mini, which is my portable reading device, radio, music player, podcast player and bedside clock/alarm.

I'm also grateful for Todoist, which is helping me keep going and get sh*t done every day.

One of the things I've started to learn this week is how to automate stuff on the Mac using Automator, which is also giving me the impetus I need to start learning scripting languages. AppleScript, of course, but also Python, JavaScript and Ruby. I've already got resources together for doing all of those, so that should keep me occupied for a few weeks. :)

I can also recommend bash as a scripting language, if only because it vastly increases the range of things you can do at the command line.

That's also on the list. I've also got Linux down as something I want to wrap my head around this year. (I have some prior experience, but it's very rusty. macOS is somewhat UNIX-y but its roots are more in BSD as I recall.)

Mac is BSD under the hood, but the terminal window runs bash. Thank goodness! I have no desire to go back to csh.
