Somewhere along the way I appear to have learned to tell the difference between being depressed and being sad. Thank you, Ame. Thank you, Curio. Sunday was low-key, but not depressing. Mellow?

Colleen spent from Monday through Thursday in the hospital. Apparently she caught the infection in time, and what's more it doesn't appear to have bee nearly as serious as the last few -- they discharged her with a prescription for oral Cipro.

Island Drug managed to misplace my CPAP supplies again. According to the woman in the pet store two or three doors down who I bought cat scratchers from yesterday, this is not unusual. (I just got a call from them saying that they've been found and will be hand-delivered this afternoon.)

Linux Journal Ceases Publication: An Awkward Goodbye -- awkward because they'd ceased publication before, then got rescued. Now it looks like they'll be gone for good. They'll be greatly missed. I spent much of Thursday writing a script to download their online back-issue archive.

Short post this week -- not much seems to have been going on.

    hungry, miserable, and not getting any attention.  Presumably waiting on lab results.
    She'd have been a lot more comfortable at home.  Should I have suggested staying?
  / V thinks this might be related to her panic attack Friday when I offered to take L to
    the hospital.  Maybe?
  / 10:35 somebody is finally drawing blood for labs.  Good grief!  Or maybe it's just one
    test they didn't realize they needed?  More likely.  Maybe?
    11:20 blood cultures, second IV.  Potassium high, for once.
  / (0805)A 11:30 she's being admitted.  IV antibiotics.  Meropenem, this time.
    seen by Chris Wiese, the hospitalist who saw her back in April (and immediately went
    on a 2-week break).  She looks too young to be a grandmother.
    -> Room 2205.  We've probably been in that one before. -> yup.  Back in April after
       she got out of intensive care.
  * headed home ~4pm
  * fixed half the snapper (i.e. one package) for dinner.  Nobody else wanted any.

  * returned call from YD, who wanted to know C's status.  She's changing her badge name

    article-reading scripts, the config file, and the fact that it wants to run as me.
  * Did several mondly daily lessons, and one of the weekly tests.  So far I'm getting by
    pretty much on stuff I remember.  I don't think the way it's organized works well for
    me, but I'll keep at it for a while more.
  * Some work on my 7c therapy chat.  went over quite a few old LJ posts -- there are
    large gaps both in the record and in my memory.
    -> I ought to write a memoir to help keep all that straight.

      Possibly the only way, because of the weird redirects.  grep, cut, and sed for the
      win.  Later I'll use the same techniques to rewrite the download page into an index.

  ~ gave up on replacing the dead battery in the meat thermometer that's been sitting on
    my desk for months -- the old one was badly corroded.
  & swapping medicine bins with C.  Hers doesn't fit in the basket anymore.
    Lots of hassle; gave her an extra cipro because she couldn't remember if she'd taken
    it this morning.  Took out the evening one to compensate
    I'd apparently been using one of the split-lidded plastic bins, but it's elsewhere
  * Done with C's meds -- took about 2 hours.  * transfer her unused ones to closet
  & jury-rigged a copy holder from desk lamp parts and a binder clip
  * did some hacking in show-temp, using variable substitution to cut resource utilization
  * finally found a place on 7c to ask about links.  -> no.  All my pages contain PII of
    some sort.  So no more poetry, etc.

    ? was she taken off potassium?  Check discharge paperwork
      -> no potassium, spironolactone down from 3 to 2.  Too many lists.
    -> housebound = medical or church.  :P  We'll see how long that lasts.
  ~ CPAP supplies ready in Clinton when they open at 9am -> NOPE

    basic red wine, hostess orange cupcakes, large tapioca pearls,
  / 9ish C cleanup, shower.  Did most of it herself.  Blood in urine, which is worrying
    % as usual I ended up in quite a bit of pain from leaning over.
    % 10pm sleepy; a little out of it.  (2)naproxen and a heating pad for the pain.

Thanks! She's at least out of the hospital and free of detectable infection for now. She made it 6 weeks last time; I'm hoping for more this time but of course we can't count on it.

My wife died on August 4th, as well.

I'm glad Colleen wasn't in the hospital for long. I hope she continues to improve.

7c = 7cups.com, formerly 7cupsOfTea -- online therapy and peer counseling. I started there mainly for therapy, but it's hard not to get sucked in to the support forums as well. Not clear that it's worthwhile.
