Done Since 2019-09-22
2019-09-29 03:40 pmNot too bad, I guess. There weren't any disasters this week apart from a few major cleanups. (The cats may disagree on the matter of running out of kibble, but it's here now.) I wrote a thing. I've done some thinking about procrastination, things I avoid, and things that make me anxious. I have gotten a few Things done.
I'm pleased about doing a couple of things on my desk. I managed to clear off half of the desk-side table, and put down a nice soft towel for the cats. It's the one I used to use at Rainbow's End for that purpose; both cats seem to like it. And I re-arranged Sable's display configuration so that the primary monitor is the big one, if it's attached, and so that the laptop's display is underneath it. In other words, when I move the cursor off the bottom of the big monitor, it goes to the top edge of the laptop screen. I'm pretty sure I tried to do that once a few years ago and failed; it's really the only arrangement that makes sense.
I also wrote a small program that does searches (like grep) in to.do files formatted like the notes under the cut. It produces output like:
./search liquids 2013/02.done:137: 0212: list of allowable "clear liquids" 2013/04.done:340: 0428: & Clear liquids :P Colonoscopy prep. 2017/08.done:57: 0803: # Kitten is a mass noun, like other liquids
The filepath and line number look just like the ones produced by
grep, the C compiler, and so on, so text editors understand
them. The next field is the month and day. This is incredibly useful,
given how much I record in my to.do file.

@ Why Your Brain Loves Procrastination
" psychologists see procrastination as a misplaced coping mechanism, as an
emotion-focused coping strategy. [People who procrastinate are] using avoidance to
cope with emotions, and many of them are unconscious emotions. So we see it as
giving in to feel good. And it’s related to a lack of self-regulation skills. "
