Done Since 2019-11-03
2019-11-10 03:07 pmAs of today it's been exactly two months since Colleen was discharged from her last hospital stay. (That's important because it starts a new "benefit period" for Medicare purposes.) So far the bladder and kidney infections have not come back. No telling how long that will last.
A lot of my mental bandwidth has been taken up by a couple of major kerfuffles on 7cups.com, discussed further in Tempest in a teacup. I'm paying for a licensed therapist, so my main reason for using the site has been unaffected, but I'm re-evaluating my use case for the rest of it.
While looking for a link for my cousin Alice, a professional viola da gamba player, I fell down a rabbit-hole (of course) and landed on Dave Conservatoire | The world's free music school. Lots of video lessons -- it's basically a YouTube channel. If you'd rather read, there are a lot of free articles on Musical U (although they steer you toward getting a $30/month membership).
What really attracted me about Dave's were the lessons on Sonic Pi and MuseScore; both open-source and cross-platform. Sonic Pi is particularly intriguing -- it's a code-based music creation and performance tool. Meaning you edit your "score" program and the music it's making changes in real-time. (There are several similar setups, at least one of which is based on Emacs.)
Anyway, kind of a weird week. I should get out more.

Date: 2019-11-11 06:05 am (UTC)I've been using MuseScore semi-regularly for some years now. Works for my own limited needs and far out-strips my own musical theory knowledge, and the UI is probably above average for complex open source software.
The 8 Qs instead of "What DO You Do" made my heart sing!
