Done Since 2020-01-12
2020-01-19 10:02 amThis week has gone by very quickly. I'm not sure where I was in that process. I don't think the fizzled snow warnings, earlier in the week, helped. Colleen rescheduled her medical appointments. It also didn't help that Christopher Tolkien died on Wednesday.
I've been singularly unmotivated lately. A little music, lots of reading as usual, but no writing to speak of. In particular, I didn't write about a couple of articles about how to write a book in Emacs, or using GitHub as a blogging host. I also didn't write about the Thwaites and Pine Island glaciers in Antarctica. (Links on Saturday; I intend to post about that later today.)
I did write about yet another vulnerability in Windows 10 that you need to patch.

* up 4:20; S=4:53, W=199.8; shower, laundry
/ F am: cran/ginger ale, toasted English with butter and blackberry jam, bacon,
/ F am: Korean dumplings, rice, vinegar, hot oil; lipton's
$ $1200 to AX from UB.
& Snow warning for 3pm -- decided it would be a good idea to do laundry before then
* SL: bleach, dairy-free pasta sauce, diced tomatoes, petite diced tomatoes, ginger
ale, sweet hot mustard, + eggs, x chicken thighs.
: The two different sizes of S-hooks arrived (yesterday, actually). The smaller ones
are too small; the bigger ones are big but not excessively so. Neither fits into the
slots on an Elfa standard, which is unfortunate.
% I may be getting a little better at accepting thanks (<-L)
/ F pm: matzoh ball soup, pilot crackers w\ bacon smoked gouda, green beans/potatoes
/ F pm: spumoni
* practice - The River, Ripple, Millennium's Dawn
0113Mo
& awake 4am; S=2:38;
/ checked but no cleanup needed. Desitin.
% not clear I'm going to get back to sleep. -> tried around 5:30
* up 7ish; S=3:29; that's still not a whole lot of sleep
: snow
/ F am: biscuits and sausage gravy. (S faked the sausage with ground pork and spices)
/ labwork
: weird: after Desti had been lying on Sable's keyboard, the disk became read-only.
Or possibly before that. What I wrote about C's breakfast didn't get written.
* practice: Ripple(inst), Ship of Stone, The River, (earlier) Daddy's World,
/ F pm: hot (real)tea
* 5pm singing - N' leave 4:25 -> Millennium's Dawn, Bells of Norwich
/ F pm: pork ribs, roasted cauliflower and mushrooms with holandaise sauce
: the Bose headphones are quite good at cancelling the rumble of L's new back massager
0114Tu
* Up 4:52; S=5:29;
/ F am: eggs, bacon, english muffin
% C spilled her glass of juice, etc. resulting in a hasty cleanup and a very stressed-
out bear. Was just about to make breakfast; two batches of eggs on muffins with
bacon; more-or-less on autopilot. Frustrated; angry at the situation; I hope I
managed to keep my voice level enough not to upset C.
: 9am snowing. Still snowing 9:50. does not look promising
-> call to reschedule. I gather we're not the only ones.
-> Good call: ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM PST THIS MORNING.
...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING
" WHAT...For the Winter Weather Advisory, scattered snow showers continue this morning
with additional snow accumulations of up to one inch. For the Winter Storm Watch,
heavy snow possible. **Total snow accumulations of up to 5 inches possible** "
x 11am leave. Drop S at Harbor Pointe walk-in clinic
~ 1:40 Dr Juaire -> resched to 0130Th at 3:20
: we probably could have made it -- now sunny, and will be until ~6pm. But still.
Probably the right call at the time, if only for my peace of mind. But...
/ F noon: matzoh ball soup; instant lemonade
/ F pm: chicken soup with paprika, tomato paste, celery, zuccini, carrots
: not snowing now; WU suggests that it won't be. the warnings are, however, still up,
and local services are closing early and planning to open late.
* pay L', Molly
0115We
* up 6:35; S=8:04; shower
: doesn't look like it snowed at all last night :/ Not complaining except that we could
have gone down to Everett after all
/ F am: cran/ginger ale, malt-o-meal
: snow started ~1pm. High wind warnings still up.
~ 2pm C Dr. Rochier -> C called to cancel; have him call (which he never did).
: V went home early (~2pm)
