mdlbearBad week. Continuing the trend set last week, the filk community lost Lindy Laurant. Meanwhile what used to be a free country continues its descent into theocratic dictatorship with kleptocracy. Colleen's nausea and diarrhea also continued, though somewhat improved over the previous two weeks. The USB connector on my old Thinkpad keyboard died while I was in the process of moving the cable to its replacement. Poor little Cygnus suffered a tea spill, so I ordered a replacement keyboard.
It's a good thing that I keep spare laptops in the house. (I'm always happy to take unwanted computers off your hands.) It's a good thing that I don't actually need Bluetooth to work on Sable.
The week to come isn't likely to be any better.

~ 4pm Ruddygore -> came in in the middle; stupid Sable doesn't seem able to output audio
to the DP. I'm almost certain it was doing that before, but...

* Fired up UbuntuStudio and did installs. Same old problem with BT; xfce4-panel isn't
nearly as configurable as it should be, and insists on sticking the menu in the upper
left-hand corner. There may be a way to reconfigure that, though. Couldn't find a

: the older thinkpad keyboard broke in a very odd way -- the USB connector broke, with
the little plastic tongue coming off in the plug. Might be hard to fix. Can

Date: 2020-09-28 12:30 pm (UTC)I feel your despair about the USA. But I take some solace that Trump's bluster about not leaving is just that, and the election result is large enough that even the Supreme Court won't be able to ignore it.
Here in the UK, the confusion and mismanagement of our government over Covid-19 continues, as does the approach of a no-deal exit from the European Union. I have a suspicion that most of the new restrictions being enacted are more to prevent civil unrest in the New Year than to control Coronavirus.
Last time I had to dig out a 32-bit Linux distro was when I wanted to revive an old Dell laptop in the late 2000s — I believe it was Linux Mint Debian Edition — the laptop in question was from 2003 and battle-scarred but usable.
