Meanwhile, the turds in DC are doing their best to sabotage as much as they can before Tuesday. I'm still expecting 45 to pardon many, if not all, of the insurrectionists.

I didn't get much of anything done all week. Can't tell whether it's clinical depression, chronic stress, burnout, some combination of those, or something else.

I sang one song at the GAFilk dead dog. That's it. Did not go to the LAFA filk sing last night. According to Riley, four of my songs were covered between the two of them.

I made new vaccine appointments at WhidbeyHealth -- their site let me schedule both shots in the series. (An hour or three later, the state went back to Phase 1, but (unlike Island Drug) WhidbeyHealth said they will honor any appointments already booked. One of the rare cases where I didn't procrastinate, and it made a difference. Will that make it easier not to procrastinate next time? Probably not.

We had a major wind storm Tuesday night, and spent all of Wednesday and half of Thursday without power. Seriously considering getting a proper backup generator; installation would be expensive but it might be worth it. Next year? I ran down Molly's 12v battery charging laptops. You might think that an electric car with 50-odd kilowatt-hours in its main battery bank would run down charging two laptops. You'd be wrong. Everything except the motor runs off that 12v battery, and it doesn't charge when the propulsion system is powered down.

Thursday morning I called roadside assistance and got a jump. I'm going to order a lithium-ion jump starter -- they're not too expensive and apparently work better than most of the lead-acid ones. Which was somewhat surprising.

FWIW, I'm nervous over here in the UK, partly about what might happen in the run-up to Inauguration Day, and partly about what sh*t the UK Government might pull while people's attention is diverted.

Had light snow here yesterday morning, but it was gone by lunchtime. Someone did manage to build a small snowman on a nearby green, which was still standing when I went for a walk in the afternoon.

I'm pretty sure he can't pardon someone in advance. And he'll be out before they're tried.

Plus, even most of the Republicans in Congress would get upset as hell if he tried.

Power outages can be hard to deal with. We replaced our gas stove recently, and I didn't push hard to switch to induction partly to avoid having to get an electrician in during the pandemic and partly because a gas stove (and kitchen matches) means we can use the stovetop during electrical outages.

We do have UPSes for the CPAPs and some battery chargers for phones. John has a gas-powered generator, but we don't usually use it unless the power's out for most of a day.

Also John speaks well of the lithium-ion jump starter he got a while ago. Does need to be charged, of course.... ;)

Hi there! LinkedIn recommended a job at a place you apparently once worked, and it made me realize how long it had been since I visited one of your blogs. I'm super glad that you & Colleen still seem to be doing okay. It didn't occur to me that filk cons might have switched to online format -- I should look into that.

Fortunately, it looks like 45 did NOT pardon anyone who was part of the mob -- https://dfw.cbslocal.com/2021/01/20/capitol-rioters-hope-trump-pardon-didnt-get/ was published on 1/20, and explicitly says "Trump waited until the early morning hours of Inauguration Day to issue a flurry of pardons that didn’t include any of the mob."
