COVID-19: Dose #1 (Moderna)

So yesterday evening I got my first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. I'd signed up with WhidbeyHealth, who said they were using Pfizer, but when I got there I found that they were saving the Pfizer, which they were short on, for people getting second doses, and giving Moderna to people in for their first dose. *shrug*

They're using the same tiny needles they use for flu vaccine, so I could barely feel it. So far I have had no side-effect symptoms, not even a sore arm. Of course it's been only 14 hours, and in any case it's the second dose that they say has more severe side-effects. I'm not worried.

I rescheduled my second dose during the 15-minute waiting period, so I'll be getting that on February 17th. (The window is 28±4 days; the 17th is the short end of that.)

Colleen's shot had been scheduled for last Friday, but they ran out and cancelled everything through Saturday. So we're waiting to hear from them for a reschedule. (For all I know they might have called; Colleen's email and phone messages are a nightmare.)

Congratulations on getting that first vaccine. Considering that the vaccine rollout is really just getting up to steam I am kind of gob-smacked at how many people I am encountering who have already had at least one shot. It's way more than the number of people I know who have had COVID.

Yay yay vaccine! My RL parents both got the lovely poke in the arm this morning. I'll take warm fuzzy vaccination stories all day long.

YAY FIRST SHOT!

(I follow someone on Twitter who was in the Pfizer Phase 3 trial -- they said the first shot was just a little sore, and the second shot was where they had fever and "feel kinda cruddy" for about 36 hours. Fever was controlled by tylenol, I think it was, and the feeling cruddy was controlled by little cheesecakes delivered by a friend. This reaction pretty much confirmed they had the Real Deal, since the placebo shot was just saline, not a flu shot as some trials do.)

Thanks! Last night was unexpectedly rough. Not looking forward to the second dose much -- my reaction to the first was... interesting.

I'm glad that your turn has come! That you're taking it! That you have no noticeable side effects! (Oh, bother, then you got some. :/ )

Holding my thumbs that Colleen will soon be vaccinated, too.
