Thankful Thursday
2022-06-02 08:48 amToday I am grateful for...
- Not using Windows (see "Code execution 0-day in Windows has been under active exploit for 7 weeks" in Ars Technica and apply the fix described in the fifth paragraph).
- Being a coffee-drinker (see Drinking Coffee Daily May Stave Off Early Death, Study Suggests in The Insider).
- Owning an electric vehicle. Have you seen the price of gas lately?
- Not having any investments in cryptocurrency (see Terra’s Crypto Meltdown Was Inevitable in WIRED).
- Sable's keyboard recovering from a minor mishap involving a glass of gin. The replacement I ordered will become a spare.
- Cat cuddles.

Date: 2022-06-02 06:19 pm (UTC)I too am glad I no longer use Windows. Windows 7 was probably the one version that gave me the least problems, and I was actually happy to upgrade from XP. Version 8 was a mess, and while 10 walked back a lot of the WTF it introduced a load of its own, and honestly I gritted my teeth when booting it up. I have zero need for 11 nor a desire to try it.
Mind you, macOS isn't without its own WTF, and I don't think I'm the only one hoping that this year's WWDC sees some commitment to both bug-fixing the OS and making the included apps proper flag-bearers of the Apple brand.
As for cryptocurrency, I've never understood why I should trust them, particularly given their impact on the environment. It breaks my heart to see so many people losing their shirts to this mania, and there is a special place in Hell for the crooks raking in the money.
