It was a week. I have no way to characterize it. Content warning: many of the links below may be triggery.

Tuesday the first images from the JWST were released. But it was also the first anniversary of Colleen's death. The infrared spectra of WASP-96B brought up memories of my father and his connection to Infrared spectroscopy. Cryptocurrencies have gone from hot to full-on meltdown The US continues on its downward path toward theocracy. There's a new hotline (988) for mental health emergencies. It will probably be dangerous for pregnant people to use. A New Attack Can Unmask Anonymous Users on Any Major Browser.

Apart from the JWST's First Images, one of the few links that won't be depressing is this tale of "crabotage". Anyway, Chance the Crab thought it was amusing.

worked at Perkin-Elmer, where the Hubble's mirror was made). The peak-finding
software for the spectra is (most likely) based on the Savitzky–Golay filter
