Thankful Thursday

Today I am grateful for...

• The E8 lattice, the Leech lattice, and octonions, which, together with multiple related Wikipedia articles and YouTube videos, provided many hours of enjoyable distraction from this troubled world over the last week. That said, I haven't gotten much else done.
• YouTube's speed control. My ability to follow a spoken narration at normal speed without getting impatient is rather limited.
• The WordPress block editor's willingness to accept a large enough subset of markdown to make copying and pasting drafts from Emacs workable. (Alas, going in the other direction does not work, editing text on the screen is as annoying as on anything else that uses the Mac keybindings, and trying to make any changes at all to images and column blocks continues to be next to impossible.)
• Multiple communication channels.
• (Most of the time) being able to manage my chronic pain with a heating pad and occasional NSAIDs.

I thought Wordpress had integrated markdown?

It's not clear how good their markdown implementation is; I haven't tried to push my luck. Fortunately N does almost all the writing and uses asterisks for italics and line breaks only between paragraphs -- those work.

I think I've determined that WP also takes markdown-style links and headings. I would prefer not to find out how badly it messes up the layout if you put in images.
