The latest post in GoingSideways.blog is United Breaks Passengers.
We interrupt the saga of our Italian adventure to bring you the horrific story of what has been happening as we attempt to finish the trip. Next week, I'll be back to telling you all about St. Peter's Basilica and our adventures in the subways of Rome, but I had to stop for a while to tell you about this. Because it's the worst airport experience I've had in almost fifty years of frequent flying.
In the unlikely event that you didn't instantly recognize the reference in the title, or if you just want to refresh your memory, here are the video, the lyrics, and the Wikipedia article.

Date: 2022-08-16 01:58 am (UTC)Geez, for that much delay United should have put them on a train -- wouldn't have taken that much longer, and they wouldn't have been running ragged like that. Ouch.
Airlines seem to suck universally. Ten years ago when Air Canada screwed up my vacation -- both getting there and getting home! -- and I got no compensation, it seemed unusual. A few years ago when Jet Blue cancelled my Thursday flight and told me to try again on Saturday (Shabbat), it seemed less unusual but was still at the level of "ok don't fly Jet Blue again". Now, though, it seems to be all of them, like you need to budget a couple extra days at each end of a vacation for travel slippage and extra money for expenses that of course they won't pay, and it kills the will to travel at all. I hate this.
