Thanks to a major mask mishap (in other words, I was stupid) I ended up spending most of the week isolating in the Lair with the cats. This was not really a hardship -- the cats are excellent company even if they do get rather distracting at times.

I spent some of the time improving on my to-do item counter scripts, ostensibly as a preliminary to pruning and organizing them. As with most of my projects, it's mostly stalled. I also greatly improved the network connection in the Lair, using a couple of powerline ethernet adapters and a cheap access point. I should probably have spent a little more time looking and gotten something that would also work as a server. Maybe this week -- there are a lot of little ARM boxes that are new since the last time I looked. In any event, refreshing my network manager trying to get a usable access point was a major time-waster, and that's over with now. I'll have to look for something else.

I also wasted some time in the cloud storage comparison rabbit-hole. The immediate excuse was that I'm nearing the limit for free Google storage. An upgrade isn't terribly expensive, and would take care of my email and photos, but it's too expensive for backing up nearly a terabyte of random files from my home server. Many of which I have no intention of trusting to $G, anyway.

Get a cheap external hard drive - they go on sale in Staples every now and then - and then back up all your files to it. Set it up to do a continuous backup of everything your computer does.

There are some files (copied over from my previous computer) that seem to have just vanished into the aether. No matter how I search for the names, it's "not found". Once or twice the one I wanted has been found on the backup drive.
