Note: The last two items include a considerable amount of circumlocution and vagueness. Approach the links with due caution if you think you might be squicked by details about the digestive tract and the (male in particular) urinary tract.

Today I am grateful for...

  • Sleep, when I can get it. (And Ticia, when she lets me sleep.)
  • Being able to read books on my phone.
  • Podcasts with transcripts.
  • Phenazopyridine. NO thanks for BPH.
  • Osmosis.

When I was in college, some of the people I knew were really into drugs. One guy was kind of a "garbage-head- if it'll get me high I want it". Some of us collaborated to teach him the error of his ways. We got some phenazopyridine pills OTC. and gave him one. warning him, "IF you get a funny taste in your mouth, drink lots of water. And if your urine or feces turn red, get to an ER, because your liver's about to fall out." (THe orange of the drug is often mistaken for red in bodily excretions). He panicked, and when the doctor told him what it was, he was very annoyed at us - but he accepted the pill and took it.

Incidentally, phenazopyridine is chemically an AZO DYE (often called "coal-tar dyes") that acts to relieve discomfort in the urinary bladder, as well as all its other effects. Many azo dyes turned out to have other uses besides making life more colorful.

I remember that - you are supposed to ask the pharmacist for AZO Standard!
