Being Thankful

mdlbearAs we get ready to head out on Thanksgiving morning, I suppose it's time for a look around for the positive.
I have my wife and kids; we're all in reasonable health. I have a job that I enjoy; we own our house (well, the parts that the bank doesn't). In spite of massive debt, bad investment decisions, and general apathy I believe my total net worth is still slightly positive. My mother, last my parents and parents-in-law, is alive and well.
Some people out there are singing songs I've written.
Out in the world, there are the Linux and other open source communities continuing to prove that people can still work together to build something big, wonderful, and worthwhile. (If only the Democrats could figure that out!)
For the moment, we are not at war with Iraq. Somehow, the world has managed to dodge nuclear war for slightly longer than I've been alive.
Things could easily be worse. It scares me to think of just how easily.
