mdlbear: portrait of me holding a guitar, by Kelly Freas (freas)

My personal soundtrack/earworm for the last week or two has been "Everybody's Moon" by Howard Kranz. I first heard it from Kathy Mar; it's on her album My Favorite Sings : Kathy Mar: Digital Music.

Lyrics at http://howardkranz.com/lyrics/ev'smoon.htm.

Everybody's Moon

words and music copyright ©1978 by Howard Ashby Kranz Shine on, everybody's moon, up everybody's sky, down everybody's heart Shine on everybody's dreams, no matter where they fly watch over what they start Dry up everybody's tears, you know, no one else can, and somebody ought to Kind of work on keeping things together till we figure what to do. 1. Everybody's got a lot of thinking to do these days; there's just so many hours in a day. Everybody's got a lot of working to do these days, and a lot of people standing in the way. And moon, you know, I just can't take it, so here I'm scratching out one more lunatic tune Cause time and things belong to no one, but it's everybody's moon. (Chorus) 2. Nobody gets a lot of feedback, just recently, and I'm not giving or expecting help. No one can seem to get together to work it out, so you see I'm speaking only for myself. It's so hard to get on the right wavelength, but I will find a way to reach my neighbor soon. I'm not sure how much we have in common, but it's everybody's moon. (Chorus) Tag: And shine on... everybody’s moon.

What a moving song! Reminds me of the lines from Hope Eyrie: "But we who feel the weight of the wheel,
When winter falls over our world,
Can hope for tomorrow and raise our eyes,
To a silver moon in the open skies"

Now, every place on the Earth's surface where people go can see the Moon at times. The Moon shines on everybody. So on that July morning, when people were watching TV or looking up at the Moon, and knowing that *WE DID IT! WE LANDED ON THE FUCKING MOON!* And I was working at Grumman Aircraft that summer, and I had a green lapel button that resembled the dashboard indicator in the Lander, which would glow when there was weight on all of the landing legs. All Grumman employees got a green button, which we wore and explained with great pride.

People need to look up at the sky more. People need to wonder at "the boundless sight of heaven's height, and the fires on the deep." I don't think the Orbit Hilton or Luna City Marriot will be ready by 2047, when I intend to have my 100th birthday party ...somewhere in space.... (You're invited, of course. Try to live that long!)
