Things are a little better this week. They picked up all the cardboard I left out for recycling on Monday (not all that I had because I ran out of spoons before I ran out of cardboard to drag out), my left eye is doing better thanks to eyelid wipes and (hypochlorous acid)eye bleach, and I finally got around to firing up the Raspberry Pi 4 that I bought a couple of weeks ago.

Turning the Pi into a combination print and storage server will be fairly trivial; the hardest part, really, will be picking out one of the various configuration options I'm considering. In other words, my usual decision paralysis. Tune in next week to see whether I actually do it.

Meanwhile N has acquired a folding mobility scooter, G rented an eBike and plans to buy one next week, and we're still looking at 2-person, car-like scooters (though I'm skeptical about their practicality in our location).

We've been granting the cats a little more freedom to roam the house (mainly because Bronx is something of an escape artists, and Brooklyn yowls to be let out in the morning). It does require somebody on the ground floor -- me, because I pretty reliably get up the earliest -- to make sure they stay off of un-approved surfaces.

  * fired up the Raspberry Pi 4.  Stupid desktop doesn't have a control panel.  But easy
    enough to use addgroup, adduser, and usermod for setting up ~steve.  rpi-imager
    helpfully copies over the WiFi settings and .ssh/authorized_keys from the user you run
    it under.  It's called Centraal, in honor of Central, the original server at Grand
    Central Starport.  Did I mention that the desktop uses Wayland,  May have to try Sway
  * 15min:  did some benchmarking.  Centraal is between 2 and 3 times faster than Sable
  * got the coat-rack mounted.  A struggle.  I don't know what I was screwing into, but it
    appears to be pretty solid.  Something like beaver board, maybe.
  * 22:00 take out cardboard for recycling.  Worry about rain -> not predicted anymore

Just removed a cat from a kitchen counter this morning. Which I'd say added "scrub kitchen counter" to my list of things to do but it is perpetually already there. Just because I didn't see it doesn't mean they didn't do it, and this house is open-plan, alas.

We had to leave a chair in the kitchen so Monroe didn't have to jump all the way from the top of the fridge. He got up when hubby bent over to get something out of the freezer. We are Monroe's springboards.

Ours can usually find their way down from things, but Bronx occasionally needs a bit of a hint -- he's the most audacious. (Ticia was the first one up the big cat tree, but she's older and knows what she's doing.)
