2026-10-25 03:53 pm It's been a long, strange, trip week, but I'm
surviving it. It could have been much worse. Let's get that part out of
the way first.
I had a doctor's appointment Monday, to discuss my lab results from the previous week. One of those meetings that really should have been an email. Along the way there's a tram station where they're doing some work, so one has to detour; they've laid down sheets of plywood to go across the tracks, and the grassy embankment on the south side. Meaning that on the way home it's up a rather steep slope. Steep enough for (scooter)Gizmo to flip over backwards. I landed flat on my back.
Fortunately I was wearing Colleen's scooter cape and my fuzzy hat. I could easily have gotten a head or back injury, but apparently I didn't. What I did do, apparently, was pull some of my upper abdominal muscles. It didn't hurt much, until I went to bed. Then came the painful spasms. So I went back Tuesday -- you can't just walk in to urgent care here; you have to go through your GP. I went by Uber this time. So I got an EKG to confirm that my pain was not cardiac-related, and told that the only pain-killer safe for me at my age was paracetamol, which I was already taking. Now, six days later, it's mostly better.
Wednesday was noteworthy for not one, but two high-priority security problems. Hopefully you haven't been putting off those updates. I spent lots of time on Wednesday installing updates and keeping an eye on DreamHost's status page.
Meanwhile, N and G took off Thursday for New York City, to visit her father and stepmother, and Columbus, Ohio, for OVFF. So I'm borrowing N's cat, Brooklyn. Or he's borrowing me; you never know with cats. He's an absolute darling.

I'm lucky my 1-and-only fall over backwards was 30 years ago, when I was more flexible.
Unfortunately, your excellent bike path infrastructure can be exploited by many EVs these days. The disdain for Scootmobiel in that article practically glows from orbit.
