Saturday afternoon we went to a wedding -- great fun; these are people we've known for years in fandom and the SCA. It's nice to go to a mundane social event where we actually know most of the people. Probably at least half of the guests have LJ's, but unlike [livejournal.com profile] lysana most of them aren't on my friends list.

Sunday was the Lamplighters' annual Gala. This is a parody incorporating music from past shows, and poking fun at recent current events. This time the fun included jabs at The Producers (the framing story), Chicago (Mikago), Urinetown (Snotville), California's gubernator-elect, George Bush, Oracle, and so on.

I spent much of the rest of the weekend trying, with limited success, to catch up on my sleep. Not much writing progress to report, but see the next post for an update.

One of the problems with trying to set aside an hour or so in the morning for writing is that things like having to wake the kids, and sometimes take them to school if I don't wake them early enough, tend to take chunks out of the middle. So does the fact that it's one of the few times during the day when [livejournal.com profile] flower_cat and I have the house entirely to ourselves. But I have made a little progress.
  • Documents Are Directories (How I Work #2)
  • Managing Websites (How I Work #3)-- really needs more work, but it will have to wait for later.
  • Friday and Saturday were spent working on a little flier to go with the maple cutting board I made as a wedding present. Not on the web yet, mainly because I don't have a useable LaTeX-to-PDF toolchain at the moment, and didn't really have the time to hand-translate the LaTeX to HTML (which would in any case have lost the Celtic-knotwork border).

From [livejournal.com profile] kshandra and [livejournal.com profile] lysana.

If you wish to participate, go to this link and fetch the paragraph for the month of your birth. Post it to your journal and strike out any text that doesn't apply to you.

MARCH: Attractive personality.sexy. Only [livejournal.com profile] flower_cat would think so, and she's prejudiced. Affectionate. Shy and reserved. in spades Secretive. Naturally honest, generous and sympathetic. Loves peace and serenity. Sensitive to others. Loves to serve others. Easily angered. mostly Trustworthy. ...but a notorious procrastinator. Appreciative and returns kindness. Observant and assesses others. Revengeful. Loves to dream and fantasize. Loves traveling. as long as it's not too inconvenient Loves attention. Would prefer not to be noticed. Hasty decisions in choosing partners. But finds a great one by blind luck. Loves home decors. Home decor consists of cardboard boxes, home-built shelves, and books. Musically talented. Or at least would like to think so, but has no plans to quit day job. Loves special things. Moody.

Grrrr

Ethernet switches aren't supposed to abruptly stop working. One shouldn't have to power-cycle them to make them work again. Weird.

And its fan seems to be very noisy, too. I get the feeling I need a new switch, and that one is less than 4 years old. Well, I'm down to one free port, and I was planning to upgrade to a 16-port switch anyway. Sounds like it's time.
