Mostly-empty day today
2003-12-21 06:20 pmI'm actually on vacation. Delightful.
I stayed up a bit later than I should have last night, rereading some Cordwainer Smith stories. I remember seeing a copy of his first book of short stories, You Will Never Be the Same, in a little bookstore near Columbia University back when I was in high school. I didn't buy it at the time (unfamiliar author, and $0.35 was quite a bit of money at the time) -- it took me years to track down a copy. I remember buying the issues of Galaxy that had the serialized episodes of The Boy Who Bought Old Earth, in the 125th Street train station about a year later. I remember reading "The Dead Lady of Clown Town" in one the pile of SF mags in my father's bedroom bookshelf.
Somehow I don't think I'll be getting a lot of writing done tonight, either.
