Late this afternoon I left work early to, as I told my boss, "have the proton spins in my head aligned." Specifically, this was for an MRI scan to determine whether there was any detectable reason why my left ear seems to be losing its high-end sensitivity faster than my right ear.
No results expected for about a week. The procedure itself took about 15 minutes and was noisy but otherwise quite boring. Not nearly as interesting as the physics behind it.
