The Younger Daughter is about 1/8" taller than me now. What a father's day present!

So much for Father's Day plans, not that we really had any. The [livejournal.com profile] flower_cat is under the weather (more in another post) and wasn't up for going out at all. I went out for a walk in the morning -- everyone else was asleep at that point -- and spent most of it feeling mildly depressed, missing my father; when I got back the gamers were starting to arrive. I made a chicken/pasta salad (under the Cat's direction) for lunch, and did a little work on the Hackwarts web page.

Then I went out, nominally to do a little shopping at Home Depot and Fry's (and the Cat told me what we needed most urgently in the way of groceries), but really without any clear aim in mind. Was on my way from Home Depot, where I bought two 45-degree PVC pipe elbows and a ratcheting screwdriver, to Surplus Computers when I finally thought about what I was doing. I got my love of tools, computers, and surplus joints from Dad, of course.

Bought a copy of (the 1956 version of) Around the World in 80 Days, mainly for the Cat, and came home. We ordered take-out Chinese from our favorite local restaurant, since there was no way Colleen would be cooking and she wasn't really up for an outing of any kind. Not really my happiest of Father's Days, but...

...and I've missed my 35th college reunion, too -- went to the 30th and really enjoyed it, but somehow I just couldn't bring myself to do the planning this time, and as it turned out we couldn't afford it, either. Father's Day makes a convenient excuse if I need one, but... I don't know why, really.

Apparently I nearly lost my Cat. She'd been feeling ill for a week or so: more tired than usual, sleeping badly, more joint pain than usual... Went in to Kaiser Friday to get looked at, and had some blood work done.

Yesterday around 5pm she got a very worried call telling her to go in right now and pick up a prescription for potassium supplements. Seems hers was 2.5 (don't know the units) -- normal is more like 35. When it gets that low it starts affecting the heart, among other things. Came back with a container of pills about the size of footballs -- maybe 2-3g. They seem to be working, though.

Monday she has another appointment to follow up and maybe figure out why her blood potassium level was so low.
