Came home last night tired, happy, and well-fed after taking some good friends out to dinner to celebrate their 30th anniversary. We went to Iberia, a Spanish restaurant in Menlo Park -- a little pricy but well worth it. Great food, great conversation, and an evening away from the kids; what more could one want?

Went to bed early, which is almost always a mistake for me. Last night was no exception. Slept poorly, lay in bed awake for about an hour, and finally gave it up and got dressed at about 5:30am. It's still dark out there, a grey half-light. The Y.D. just left for school (she has her first class at 7:30). The [livejournal.com profile] chaoswolf is up, too -- she has a doctor's appointment at 8:30.

crosstool

After beating my head against OpenEmbedded's monster build system for a couple of days, Dan Kegel's crosstool appear to be a major win. It's finished with gcc, g++, and glibc, and is now happily compiling gjc.

To be fair, I got this far with the Debian tools; the sticking point there was figuring out how to build the package. That, and the nagging feeling that the target environment might not be quite sufficiently Debian-like.

update: The java compiler and libraries actually got built but as far as I can tell not gij, the interpretor (runtime). I think it's in the same source tree, so it's probably just a configuration option that needs tweaking. Total build time about an hour and a half.
