testing...

This is a test of the new lj-update -- I want to see whether it obeys my usual prejudices. OK, it does word-wrap now. That's a good sign. This line is separated by a blank line from the previous one; we'll see whether it's a new paragraph. I'd really prefer that it not be.

alt-return doesn't start a paragraph. That's a bad sign.

So, the next question is whether we are now using
html-helper-mode.

looks that way. So is this going to work??? Hopefully. Only real
question at this point is whether it has enough sense to turn off
auto-format when the fill mode is "raw". If this works, there will be no
line break after "using" in the paragraph above.

So is this going to
work?

This should be the second paragraph, and there should not be a line break
before "work".

Unfortunately it doesn't look like we have keyword completion in tags and
picture. Grump.

In any case, this should not be a separate paragraph.

but this should. The trick is apparently to

(add-to-list 'request '("opt_preformatted" . "true"))

OK, we'll try it with
    (add-to-list 'request '("prop_opt_preformatted" . "1"))
(Edit: YES! Formatting preserved in the text field, and everything. Even sets the checkbox correctly. Fails to find userpic based on partial keyword, though.)

Much of my hacking time today was spent downloading and customizing the latest version of [livejournal.com profile] ljupdate, the LJ client for Emacs. The customization consisted mainly of switching it over to my preferred HTML-editing mode, html-helper-mode; this required figuring out how to tell LJ's server that no, I really don't want it to automatically insert a <br> tag everyplace I have a newline. Now, when I look at my HTML in an edit form, it will look like it did when I entered it. Yay.

When I went out bed shopping with the Younger Daughter a week or two ago, I noticed a really nice loft+desk rig that seemed just right for the [livejournal.com profile] chaoswolf. This afternoon she looked at it and agreed, so she now has about a week to clean her room to the point where it can be installed. It was somewhat pricey, but will be covered by one of the two mortgage checks I won't have to pay because of the refinance.

Finally, one of my favorite surplus joints, Halted, was having their annual sale today. Whee! Aside from a power strip ($6) and a pair of 24" chassis slides ($5) that might work in the kitchen, the main purchase was a pair of Logitech Trackman FX trackballs, at $30 each. They were marked down from an astronomical $138, and they had a printout of an Amazon.com auction that had them going for $225. They're the ones I like, they don't make my hands hurt, and they're not being made anymore. Same reason I used to buy IBM Model M keyboards whenever I saw them, until the shelf got full enough that I figured I had a sufficient supply.
