Done Since 2019-09-08

Some good things this week, though under my usual definition of "a good week is one where nobody went to the ER" it wasn't a good week -- V's son was the one this time. Too much exercise on too little water.

But the good things -- Sunday L got out of the hospital -- she'd been in with pneumonia. Tuesday, C got out of the hospital. By now she's only a little weaker than when she went in last Friday. And Wednesday my new (to me) laptop arrived. After going through quite a few different possible names (it's a Thinkpad, so the common theme is "black things") I settled on Sable. Sable is not only the tincture (color) black in heraldry, it's an animal with black fur in the weasel family.

Much of the rest of the week was spent on configuring Sable; it's not quite ready to replace Cygnus but it's close. Compared to Cygnus it has twice as much RAM, twice as much SSD storage, nearly twice the battery life, and about ten times the speed. It's a little bigger, and weighs almost exactly the same. (I'm still not entirely convinced that I'm better off with Sable, a Thinkpad X230, than I would have been with an X1 Carbon. Really, it's a bit of a toss-up -- both have their advantages.)

Yesterday I went to (neighbor)Dean's annual birthday party -- alone, since nobody else in the house was up for it. Met a few people. Not as much fun as it was two years ago when I went with C, N and the kids. But...
