Thank you.

After [livejournal.com profile] filkerdave's announcement, I thought I would go into numerical overkill.

I am 100 years old today. Base 7. Or 10, base 49. Or 110,001 base 2. Or, as Dave would put it, 23 base 23. 31, base 16. How would I put this in base 60, a la the Sumerians? I've run out of glyphs, the arabic numerals and roman letters having been used up at 36. What should I use? What should it be called? Gmorf? Squiggly-poo?

A few years ago, my birthday cake had a big 50 on it. And a small subscript 9 drawn in frosting. The grocery store was all out of 4s, as I recall, or maybe it was just what we had on hand at the house. I get to do that again next year without the subscript.

I am a perfect square. (Some people would say that I am that all the time.) When this year is over, I will have 14 years of irrationality before I am perfectly square again.

That will be plenty of time to procrastinate. Although it is wrong, I am very entertained by a button I bought from Nancy Lebovitz at Arisia: "I have not yet begun to procrastinate." So my next birthday is a target date for starting ;-)

I hope everybody else has a great day, today.

March 12th, 2005, will be the M.A.S.S. F.I.L.C. meeting, at my house, which is also the celebration of my birthday (as opposed to the actual day, which is today). If you're planning to be in the area (and most people who read this won't), and want to attend, please RSVP so we know how many people to expect.
