chaoswolf just ordered from Sweetwater stirring a familiar lust of which my wife would not approve?
Maybe it's because it's not only extremely cool-looking, but it's honest about it. All of the other little Martins have "High Density Laminate" bodies, too, and most of them have HDL tops (the two high-end ones don't). But all of the others cover their cool, sexy black laminate with a layer that photographically reproduces a wood-grain pattern, just like the flooring in my home office. There's no real deception involved: the bevelled edge where the top meets the side clearly shows the thin layer of color over the dark resin. But the overall effect is not unlike a schoolgirl toddling around in too-high heels because she's ashamed to be so much smaller than her classmates.
Ovation, of course, has shown that there's nothing wrong with black laminate and bright, plastic-like colors in a quality guitar, and some Martins, like the Alternative series aren't afraid to stand up and be noticed. The Alternatives even have pattern-brushed-aluminum tops and a startlingly mellow, sexy, dark tone. If Martin made a Little guitar with an aluminum top I'd buy it in a heartbeat, and worry about theflower_cat's wrath later.
The little, black Martin is a lot like thechaoswolf herself -- small, dressed all in black, not afraid to speak up, and wearing her differences proudly. I think they'll get along fine together.
