From [livejournal.com profile] filkerdave:

1) What's the sweetest guitar you've ever played (even if it's not one you own)?
My little Martin O15 is right up there, but it could stand to have the action worked on. I was in the acoustic room at Guitar Showcase (nice place, right across from my dentist's office, which is very dangerous) about a year ago playing "Freight Train", which is one of my usual picking test patterns, when the salesman opened the glass case and pulled out the Elizabeth Cotton special edition Martin for me to try. Very nice. Showcase also sells the Martin "Alternative", which has a black laminate body and an aluminum (!) top. Very mellow, quiet, dark sound. One of these days, if I ever have an extra $1k or so burning a hole in my pocket, I want to get Martin to make a black "little Martin" with an aluminum top.

2) What song of yours would you most love to hear played with a full band?
I've always imagined "Guilty Pleasures" with a rock band backing it up. Golden Bough does a fantastic job on "The Little Computing Machine" (which is TTTO one that they do, "The Black Velvet Band". I think most of the others would work best with a small ensemble; maybe flute, violin/viola/cello (depending on what works), and maybe a synthesizer.

3) Name one meal you wish you could cook and would, if you knew how.
That's a tough one, because I've always been a pretty good cook. But proper sushi is difficult, and I'd like to get good at it. And I don't have nearly enough experience with Indian cooking.

4) If you could change one geophysical thing about where you live, what would you change and why?
It would be nice if it were on the coast -- it would be a little cooler, and I'd be able to walk to the ocean instead of having to drive for 45 minutes. Otherwise, I like it here in San Jose. If not the coast, then up in (what's left of) the redwood forest in the Santa Cruz mountains -- cooler again, and I really enjoy going for walks.

5) How do you renew your soul when you're down?
Going for a long walk, mostly. Preferably along a river or creek in a wooded area. It almost always works; there's a nice creekside bike path not too far from home. If a walk doesn't do it I'll try noodling on the guitar, reading Yeats, or writing. Sometimes I manage to write a song, poem, or prose poem over the course of a couple of walks; that seems to be the best.

I've been staring at the screen too long. I read, "what would you with your soul when you're upside-down?"
