mdlbearA brief remark on the radio reminded me that July 16 is the 60th anniversary of the first test of a nuclear weapon. Apollo 11 was launched on this day in 1969; I had just moved out to California for grad school; I don't remember where I watched the launch, but it was somewhere on the Stanford campus. I watched the landing at the AI lab, where there was a large color TV in the lounge.
The new Harry Potter book is out; our copy is waiting at one of the local B&N stores for pickup later today. No danger of spoilers from me -- I haven't even gotten to the third volume yet. I noted with mild amusement that Wikipedia already has it on the list of the day's events.
