As for me, I think music as a whole (as opposed to the "music" -- actually recording -- industry) would be better off without the Big Five labels and all the baggage that gets dragged along with them.

And of course, a lot of my favorite CDs are privately published (Heather Alexander comes to mind), so they don't even show up on the radar.
