Four jobs I have had in my life:

1. Consultant at Xerox PARC
2. "software engineer" at AMI
3. programmer at Zilog
4. computer science researcher at Ricoh

Yeah, they're all basically variations on "hacker". My current title translates as "middle-aged hacker". I don't tend to change jobs very often.

Four movies I would watch (have watched) over and over again:

1. 2001
2. Star Wars -- you know, the first one. Before they were "episodes".
3. The African Queen
4. Yellow Submarine

The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, ...

Four favorite foods:

1. dark chocolate, somewhere between 70% and 85% (99% might be a little bit past the optimum.
2. sushi, especially unagi
3. twice-cooked pork (hot and sour soup is right up there)
4. fried matzoh (definitely a comfort food)

...and let's not even mention peanut-butter-and-chutney sandwitches.

Four places I have lived:

1. Yonkers, NY
2. Norwalk, CT
3. Northfield, MN
4. San Jose, CA (currently)

Four TV shows I love to watch (some on DVD and VCR):

1. Nova
2. Mystery (especially the Lord Peter, Poirot, and Sherlock Holmes series).
3. CSI
4. The Avengers

I listen to a lot of NPR and PBS on the radio -- it's hard to watch TV when you're driving.

Four websites I visit daily:

1. my LJ friends list
2. Astronomy Picture of the Day
3. Groklaw
4. BoingBoing

Four places I'd rather be right now:

1. Portland (either Oregon or Maine; I'm not picky)
2. London
3. Tokyo
4. New York

...anyplace but at home, having to deal with my younger daughter's disastrous report card

Sorry I phrased that so badly -- I'm not upset about either part; I just have trouble thinking of people to tag. I'm not sure whether it's a lack of specific curiosity, a general reluctance to impose on people, or what.

In any case, I actually enjoy responding to these silly things, and was rather hoping you'd tag me -- it's just that I rarely tag anyone else.

Zilog and AMI? When? (Zilog is just too cool; my first "real" language was Z-80 assembler... and I've worked at AMI myself; that's where I learned to write device drivers.)

Totally with you on Holmes and Poirot. I don't watch live TV anymore, but I've got the Poirot box set... :)

Let's see... AMI was somewhere around 1972-1976, then Zilog was 1976-1985. At AMI I did software for their 6800 development system; Zilog was a wide range of stuff including IC testers (they built their own and at one point were planning to sell them) and a real-time kernel.
