Yesterday's party was a lot of fun, though somewhat sparsely-attended. Not really surprising, since this is a very busy time of year. My breakfast has consisted entirely of leftovers, which is also not surprising. Lots of cheese, hummos, and baguette slices. Not to mention a post-dated birthday cake for the [livejournal.com profile] chaoswolf. There was filking, though not very much.

I often find myself retreating to the office at parties; I have my ultra-comfortable Aeron chair (with good back support), and there's room for three or four (five, if they're friendly) people to have a good, quiet discussion. I love our parties, but I don't do well with multiple cross-conversations and the occasional loud argument.

I also a fair amount of time doing tech support. The first problem was [livejournal.com profile] gridlore and [livejournal.com profile] kshandra's new (to them) Dell PC, which appeared to boot but didn't show anything on the screen. That turned out to be due to the fact that there were two video interfaces: one on the motherboard (the obvious one) and one on a PCI card (the active one). The second was Ubuntu Dapper on an Apple G4 laptop, with an overheating CPU. That one required grubbing around in the kernel modules to find the right power-management module. Still not sure we found the one that controls the fan, but the CPU did seem to be running cooler when we were done.

I crashed somewhere between midnight and 1am. I spent much of the day in moderate pain, both from my left ankle and my left shoulder. Both problems seem to be pretty-much gone today; I'll wear my ankle brace and take it easy on the walking. Annoying; I haven't had a good walk in a week, and I'm starting to go stir-crazy.

Next stop is Fry's and probably Home Depot (which is right across the street) for power squids, bookends, and a grow lamp for the [livejournal.com profile] flower_cat's orchids and ferns in the back bathroom.
