Erk. Hopefully it would get hot enough to be uncomfortable on the lap well prior to actually bursting into flames!

One would like to think that. Problem is, it might be a positive-feedback thing, where it gets just a little bit warner, then up it goes. Depends a lot on the exact cause of the fire (short? overheating?), among other things.
