Had dinner at a local restaurant called "Red Robin" - obviously a chain. The clam strips looked good, but more breading than clam. I'll try someplace else tomorrow.

The hotel advertises free wireless, but I wasn't able to connect either in my room or in the lobby. Apparently on different access points; I'll try again later.

Stupid goddamned Mac crashed on me! I thought OSX wasn't supposed to do that! Fortunately, LJ saves drafts! I'm not complaining.

Anybody know how to set up groups on this stupid thing? On a real unix I'd just add a line to /etc/group, but it has a comment saying that it's not used. Something called lookupd is, but there's no /etc/lookupd/ (mentioned in the man page for lookupd). Foo.

Groups on a Mac? Gotta be in the system GUI. If you can't find it there I'll ask my old boss who has a Mac Mini for a desktop box.

There is a Red Robin near Tanforan Mall in San Mateo. The restaurant is very heavy handed with the salt.

oh, it's in "netinfo" I think; the MacOS version of NIS. Look in the Utilties directory.

Hey! you're staying in Portland. You're over in Lloyd Center, aren't you? Want to meet for cheap sushi or whatever? E-mail me; if you want to get me during the day, email my phone at my LJ user name at tmomail.net.

tell me what you (and/or several of your geek cohorts) want to eat, and i'll try to make some recommendations. there are LOTS of good places nearby, if not within walking distance, easily accesible via bus or light rail. email anytime tomorrow, or phone the cell: 206-902-6802.

Frex: intersect the #12 bus and ride it east on Sandy and there are a bunch of nifty eateries in the Hollywood District (near NE 42nd), and several Viet/Thai places farther out, around 56th or so. There are also many great eateries in Old Town, just across the river via light rail (and in the free ride zone, to boot!). Also, the Lloyd Center Food Court has a good selection of places: Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Cajun, several of the standard American fast-food options, and a good 50's style burger joint (whose name I forget).

I found a shareware program called Version Tracker that looks like it does what you want.
