Did the new vocals for "Little Computing Machine" this evening. Might have time for another, depending on how my throat feels. There are three or four vocal tracks left, and about the same number of guitar tracks (most of which are just due to the fact that when I record over half of a scratch track I have to record the other half as well).

Technical Details:

Vocals are easier, because I neglected to record a count-in. Never again. It's stupidly simple: two measures or so of counting or tapping along with the beat. I click a fingernail on the guitar's pick guard, which produces a nice sharp attack that's easy to synchronize to. I did it yesterday and it worked fine. Audacity's "select from cursor to end" and "export selection" functions make it easy to drop the count-in from the final track.

Inserting a count-in where I don't have one is a little harder; what I'm planning to do is click along with the existing start, then time-shift it to the beginning. There are at most six tracks where I'll have to do this (four definite; two where it might not be needed).

Aside -- I just realized that "Someplace in the Net", which I re-recorded last night, may be yet another song in 7/8. Gleep! No wonder I'm so bad at notation. It's interesting -- I recorded four evenly-spaced clicks as a two-measure lead-in, and left just the right amount of extra space after the last one for the extra eight-note. Felt perfectly natural at the time.
