Did a great deal less than I should have this weekend. Yesterday's work on "Mushrooms" and "Little Computing Machine" I've already mentioned. This afternoon I did a lot of listening to what I already have on "Guilty Pleasures", decided that take-1 is clean enough for a scratch track, and added a count-in. I did not feel that my voice was up for recording vocals, but should have done more guitar tracks.

I felt more tired than usual after my walk this afternoon, and have the general feeling that I'm coming down with something. My nose is more stuffed than usual, too. Grumble.

Spent a fair amount of time -- more than I should have, actually -- ripping CDs. After using grip this morning, I switched to jack, a text-based ripper that seems to put a little less load on the CPU. This is important because it seems as though my CPU fan is inadequate, so the machine heats up and freezes occasionally when it's been doing a lot of floating-point arithmetic or anything else CPU-intensive. Like encoding. Waiting 20 minutes or so between rips seems to work.

I really don't feel like throwing another $300-400 or so at a new system right now, so I'm going to try to keep this one going at least until next year. I may try to install a new heatsink.

Your fan might be OK. I have had this happen to me on numerous desktop systems and I have remedied the problem by reapplying a goodly dollop of thermal paste between the processor chip and its heat sink.
