mdlbear: portrait of me holding a guitar, by Kelly Freas (freas)

As I mentioned two posts downwhen from here, I did get some album-related work done over the weekend. It wasn't recording, though; my voice wasn't really up for it on Saturday. Sunday I just ran out of time, though I did finally get in some practicing ahead of my concert at Loscon. (I think I'm doing well enough with Janis Ian's "Last Train" that I can perform it. I'm not completely happy with the arrangement, but it definitely benefits from a drop-C tuning.)

Back to the album.

I spent quite a lot of time this weekend working on my website, and in particular the Albums directory. The main development is that I'm getting a better handle on the scheduling -- the plan is now to have everything on my end done by the end of the year. This means that, if all goes well, I'll be sending it to the duplicators sometime shortly after GAFilk. This will be helped considerably by the fact that I have to take rather a lot of vacation before the end of the year, because it has already started to go away. In fact, I'm taking tomorrow and Wednesday off, mainly for recording.

My voice is finally back up to the point where I can sing again, if I'm careful. The [livejournal.com profile] flower_cat said last night that I was sounding good, so if that holds up I can probably get the last of my vocal tracks done this week.

The main bit of planning I did this weekend centers around pre-orders. I'm not so financially strapped that I have to sell enough pre-orders to pay for duplication, but I do want to get some idea of demand, express my gratitude for all the folks (waves at [livejournal.com profile] chaoswolf) who've been, um, encouraging me over the last couple of years, and at least have a down-payment on duplication. Oh, yes -- and have something I can sell at GAFilk, since I won't have actual albums in hand at that point.

So the plan is to burn a short "bonus" album, nominal value $5, that I can hand out to anyone who hands me a $20 bill for a pre-order. (The album itself will have a sticker price of $15.) Its title will be About Bleeding Time!, because the obvious idea for disk art was just too good not to use. There's a little more information at the link.

Bottom line: -- I intend to have Coffee, Computers, and Song at the duplicators in early 2007, and will start taking pre-orders on New Year's Day. Anyone who pre-orders for $20 will get a $5 bonus album.
