Danger in high places
2003-05-29 08:23 pmFriends have been helping Emmy clean her room. This is wonderful, since the little one has inherited pack rat's disease from both parents, and her room was impassible (nothing's impossible).
As of last night, work with rakes and shovels and other implements of destruction had progressed to the point where it was possible to relocate her bed: by moving it under the window it would be possible to free up much of a wall for sorely-needed shelves. A Good Thing. In order to move the bed, though, it was necessary to move the desk about a foot to the right.
The problem is that the desk is cheaply-made of particle board and, as we found out later, not very well glued together. Maybe not glued at all. So when we (me and the adult friend who'd been helping with the cleaning) started moving the desk, despite my best efforts to pick up my end, it started pulling apart and leaning over.
Oops.
We hurriedly started clearing it off, beginning with the monitor. Another person (
misdev IIRC) who had come upstairs to watch was dispatched for a box for the contents of the drawers; meanwhile we continued bailing -- at least, that's what it felt like. After about five minutes of this,
chaoswolf came rushing upstairs to ask me to go fetch a box!
misdev needed it ASAP! Apparently she hadn't mentioned why.
I would have fallen over laughing if I hadn't been holding the desk together at that point.
Eventually we did manage to get it back together and in the right place; it's marginal but will probably hold until the next serious earthquake.
