How Six Apart's Greed Allied Them With Neo-Nazis by [livejournal.com profile] stewardess.

What fandom didn't know: Six Apart was vulnerable to scandal because they are dreaming of an IPO (initial public offering), also known as "going public," also known as selling shitloads of stock. So "cleaning up" LiveJournal, making it pretty for investors, was something Six Apart management was already planning. They weren't thinking just of pedophiles -- anything that could look creepy to investors was a concern. They wanted to be sure there would be nothing the press could grab hold of.

(Updates here on GJ because apparently [livejournal.com profile] stewardess is having trouble editing on LJ. Why are we not surprised?

Thanks for the link. [livejournal.com profile] stewardess is having trouble updating the post, so here's a link to the expanded version with sources:

The article is *plausible*. It doesn't cite sources on either WFI's tactics or the idea that 6A is angling for IPO (sure, it *looks* like the VC's have run in some professional managers on the founders in order to sell it to either somebody in the Google/Yahoo/AOL tier of companies or to IPO). And it makes the egregious statement that the Confederate flag is the flag of the "American Nazi party". Well, for one thing, there's nothing American at all about the NSDP and for the other if there is an outfit using it as their banner, they can damn well give it back or face the business end of Old Betsy, because that's thievin' of the worst kind, and us Johnny Rebs consider that a shootin' offense. (Nevermind that said outfit would be dumb enough to consider some of the smarter people I know less than themselves, which is deserving of a Darwin award in and of itself....)

It's not that [livejournal.com profile] stewardess is being specifically targetted for craptastic network performance - Many users, including can't post something longer than, say, six lines without getting timed out/can't find/sorry-can-you-repeat-that...

The only way I could post a sizable rant on my journal yesterday was by breaking it up into bite-size bits and threading them into the replies after the initial statement. And my rant wasn't even Strikeout-related!

I haven't read the timestamps on the situation, but for me, at least, timing out started in the late afternoon (Pacific) of the Great Strikeout.
