How I spent my day
2003-07-01 07:51 pmI spent almost my entire day at work upgrading my aging but comfortable laptop from an ancient install of RedHat (5.1, IIRC) to Debian (woody). This was a lot harder than it would have been if the silly thing had a CD-ROM drive.
Actually, I spent the morning backing it up, and the afternoon wiping out the Windows 98 partition and replacing it with a real OS. Went pretty smoothly, considering.
In case you were wondering, this is actually work related: our group is experimenting with some Java software and wireless networking, neither of which will run on the old OS. Although the fact that I may run into some wireless hotspots at Westercon had crossed my mind. And I intend to do some writing on the trip.
