Just verified that k3b, the program I used to burn the master for CC&S, doesn't put in pregaps by default. In fact, it basically doesn't know about them at all: you have to (explicitly, manually) add 2 seconds of silence at the end of every damned track. IDIOTS!!

My own damned fault for not listening to the master carefully enough. Too late now.

Grump. I'd go over on KDE's site and file a bug; even old xcdroast knows about putting silence between audio tracks. Grr, Argh indeedy.

I'm more inclined to put my efforts toward figuring out why cdrdao doesn't write text correctly.

Oddly enough, both k3b and xcdroast shell out to wodim (free fork of cdrecord), which puts in pregaps by default. That's part of why I didn't even consider the possibility that it wouldn't.

My preferred program, cdrdao, doesn't add silence by default, but the perl script I drive it with does.

At least it recognizes the separate tracks AS separate tracks - I promptly ripped the whole thing to my computer where it's running at the moment, and the player is giving them proper separation. (Given that I was up until almost 4am last night playing tracks and doing stuff on the computer, I might accuse you of being a bad influence, except that I tend to do that ANYWAY... :) )

I can live with that sort of error. Spacing doesn't bother me. Having to adjust the volume to hear a song would.

This I would consider a MINOR error. I have a filk CD that the group ended EVERY song very abruptly and it needed someone to make the songs fade out a little to make it sound a lot better. (Australian B5 filk (fangroup) CD that a dealer got in 2005.)

As long as you got the songs done right (which the comments I have seen have confirmed), I would consider your FIRST CD a success!

If the CD sells well enough to warrant an eventual second printing you can fix the problem then. That will make this first version worth a premium as a Collector's Item!

Thought about that; might do it. There are complications, though, due to things like CDDB/FreeDB (every track except the last one would be 2 seconds longer) and iTunes (an album is forever: any time you change it they put it up as a different album). And of course the barcode, so the artwork would have to be changed instead of simply reprinted.

At that point I might as well fix up some of the arrangements, add a bonus track, and tack on a "v2.0" on the title. All of which is tempting; it would be worth it to have a better CD.
