The [livejournal.com profile] flower_cat and I tried out a new restaurant this evening: Maggiano's Little Italy, one of the restaurants in the new and very upscale Santana Row.

It's not exactly a high-end Italian place (there are some holes in the menu), but it's tasty, the portions are huge, and they don't serve pizza. Between the two of us we had an appetizer sampler, a half-order of salad, a stuffed artichoke, a half-order of eggplant parmigiano, and one order of veal marsala -- and took about a third of it home. Two unfortunate oriental ladies at an adjacent table had apparently ordered an appetizer, full-sized salad, pasta, and main dish each. It was clear from the table on the other side that the deserts were fully capable of serving four people (or two teenagers) -- we passed on the tiramisu.

They have a family-style dinner for four or more where you pick two each of appetizers, salad, pasta, main dish, and desert for $20-something per person -- looks like a good deal if you have hungry teenagers to feed.

We have yet to find a bad -- or even mediocre -- restaurant in Santana Row.

I take it you haven't been to the Mexican place yet, then. [livejournal.com profile] dafydd and I were there with friends a week or so ago, and were decidedly unimpressed. (There were no free refills on the soda, and matters went downhill from there....)

I have yet to have a bad meal at Maggiano's in Atlanta. Excellent food and lots of it. We've done pre-con dinner there with a big group before each of the last two GaFilks.

[livejournal.com profile] filker0 and I have been to 3 (or 4?) different Maggiano's (IIRC, we introduced [livejournal.com profile] autographedcat to the chain); we haven't had a bad meal yet. And pretty much each time has been doing the "family-style" dinner.

And it's been goooood.

As an aside, regarding the family-style menu - the menu appears to be the same for lunch and dinner; lunch is sustantially cheaper :-)

The restaurant sounds great. Steve, did you go to Mama Leone's in New York? It sounds like Mama's before Mama's went downhill.. I was there in 1967.. G=d, I am dating myself.
