flower_cat and I tried out a new restaurant this evening: Maggiano's Little Italy, one of the restaurants in the new and very upscale Santana Row.
It's not exactly a high-end Italian place (there are some holes in the menu), but it's tasty, the portions are huge, and they don't serve pizza. Between the two of us we had an appetizer sampler, a half-order of salad, a stuffed artichoke, a half-order of eggplant parmigiano, and one order of veal marsala -- and took about a third of it home. Two unfortunate oriental ladies at an adjacent table had apparently ordered an appetizer, full-sized salad, pasta, and main dish each. It was clear from the table on the other side that the deserts were fully capable of serving four people (or two teenagers) -- we passed on the tiramisu.
They have a family-style dinner for four or more where you pick two each of appetizers, salad, pasta, main dish, and desert for $20-something per person -- looks like a good deal if you have hungry teenagers to feed.
We have yet to find a bad -- or even mediocre -- restaurant in Santana Row.

Date: 2003-08-18 07:14 pm (UTC)Of course, I don't drink soda, so I wouldn't have noticed that particular problem -- I generally start with a marguerita and then switch to water. In any case, they have fresh corn tortillas and an excellent selection of authentic Mexican food (including chicken mole), served family style.

Date: 2003-08-18 05:14 pm (UTC)And it's been goooood.
As an aside, regarding the family-style menu - the menu appears to be the same for lunch and dinner; lunch is sustantially cheaper :-)
