A moderate earthquake occurred at 8:04:54 PM (PDT) on Tuesday, October 30, 2007. The magnitude 5.6 event occurred 8 km (5 miles) NNE of Alum Rock, CA. The hypocentral depth is 9 km ( 6 miles).

That's about 15-20 miles from the Starport. Shook for about 15 seconds, and rattled our earthquake detector (the rack of pots). (Update: it also knocked 3 videotapes off a shelf. Whee.)

I had a bunch of VHS tapes fall off a bookshelf, but that appears the extent of the damage here.

Is it time to ask Lynn to dust off the California Love Song?

It was quite noticeable up here in Albany; a bit longer lasting than other recent quakes, but more gently rolling than jolting. I immediately hit my bookmark for the Recent Earthquakes site, which gives time, location, magnitude, links to topo maps and seismographs.... I think it's all handled by robots, and has the info up in a couple of minutes. Lacks a Turn Quake Off button. :)
