Google Announces the OpenSocial API

Google has announced OpenSocial, a new open API for social networks. The new standard will allow developers to create Facebook-like apps on any social network site that implements it with the same calls.

I do not like it, Sam-I-Am. I don't like Google owning so much of the web. (Nor do I like Adobe, which is worse, but at least the standards for PDF are so old and so open that we can generate as well as interpret and no one is the wiser....)

Neither do I, but if the APIs are really open and easy to implement by anyone, it might get a lot easier to port stuff. And that would be good.
