Album notes

I've actually been getting a few things done on the music front.

1. Went down to Stanford to see who to talk to about selling albums. Most college bookstores have a section for works by alumni. Stanford doesn't: it's owned by some chain that doesn't give a damn. I pledged them $50 this year; next year I'll just send that much more to Carleton.
2. Essentially finished with adapting the various make rules and perl scripts to the new directory layout. Track working directories now live underneath the corresponding album working directories.
3. My TrackInfo script is now capable of computing total time for a list of songs, so it can take over much of the work of the Setlist script. Eventually it should allow me to integrate setlists and the corresponding concert recordings.
4. Did some tracklist planning. There are definitely three albums in the queue now. Stop laughing.

I could use a little input from your collective wisdom here...

... in particular about the title. The new album will have mostly space and fantasy songs, with maybe one or two computer songs thrown in. That includes The Rambling Silver Rose, which doesn't really fit into the narrative arc of Hackers' Heaven. How does "The Rose Among the Stars" sound for an album title? Or perhaps simply "Rose Among Stars"? Or am I getting too obsessed with roses here?

I'm getting a definite image for cover art; I'll write more on that when I have the directory set up.

I expect to have a web page with a tentative track list up by Monday, along with a couple of new scratch tracks.

I'd say it really depends on the other songs on it, though I'd generally try to avoid similar album titles.

Maybe 'A Ramble in the Stars'? Though I'd still want to know what else specifically was on it before I really gave my title opinions.

3 albums? Sounds like my currrent queue for 2008. 2 due out before Contata (June), 1 after. Then again, unlike you, I am not performing on the CDs, just recording/editing the audio.

Either title will be fine, but as someone else commented, I don't recall a similar title with the word "Rose" in it for an album. Among/Among the Stars I don't recall.. Of the Stars does exist.

I don't see a problem with a common word in titles between albums.

Kathy Sands has the word sheep appearing in in the titles of her first 3 CDs. Scaring the Sheep, No Sheep Aloud, Do Hackers Dream of Electric Sheep? (#3 is currently in fixing the editing problems stage. (I have the notes of what to fix from the proofreader.) ETA of release - Spring '08))

The Carleton bookstore does have an alumni books section--your class is well represented. I did not see anything about albums, but it seems likely they would be interested.

They apparently have an alumni music section as well. I sent a couple of emails to their buyer, but never got an answer; I'm really bad about making phone calls.
