WinXP Home is Crippleware

Still don't have file sharing working between chaoswolf's new laptop and the rest of the network, which is Win98 and Samba. Apparently filesharing on XP Home is hopelessly crippled.

Why am I not surprised?

Eventually, chaoswolf will probably tire of the hassles and have me upgrade the damned thing to Linux, or at least dual-boot it.

there are ways; you need to not have passwords on the shared drives (ick), you need not to disable guest user, you may need to use the main user login to access the shares (again, no password), and you can find a hack to access the security and sharing panel that you get normally in Pro. Start - Run - ctrl userpasswords2 (if that's not right google will find the correct word) opens advanced user control panel

Could the problem be that "guest" has a password on all of our other systems?

Nice try, but none of those actually answer the question. Basically, I've done all that. Nobody I've spoken to so far has ever gotten XP Home working on an existing network. Oh, well... check the blasted settings again, I suppose.
