Getting ready for Baycon
2008-04-20 10:20 pm Just got back from a Tres Gique rehearsal at Joyce's. I think I may be
allergic to something in that house; my throat got very dry and
constricted, so we didn't get through even the songs I had on the list.
There's still room for a few more, and suggestions (waves at
cflute and
pocketnaomi) are welcome.
Here's the set list so far, in no particular order...
| 1 | Keep the Dream Alive Jordan on drums. Yeah. |
| 2 | The River my newest. |
| 3 | The World Inside the Crystal Old but still good; a Tres Gique standard. |
| 4 | Ship of Stone Just because it's not eligible for a Pegasus nomination this year doesn't mean it doesn't deserve one. |
| 5 | The Stuff that Dreams are Made Of Definitely works with Joyce on low harmony. |
| 6 | The Toolmakers Joyce found a good harmony for this one, too. The drum part still needs some work, but it's getting there. I think there's a bass flute part in there, too. |
| 7 | The Owl and the Pussycat Really likes three voices. |
| 8 | Ferret Went A-Courtin' What works on this one is one or the other of us taking the first and last lines of each verse solo, and the middle two lines together. It's usually pretty obvious which one takes the lead. |
| 9 | The Merry Man and his Maid Joyce and I both love this one. This is about where my voice gave out, though. |
| 10 | House Carpenter I'd like to do some traditional folk; this is one we've done before, and it leads naturally to... |
| 11 | Demon Lover |
That's about 42 minutes worth; there's room for one or two more. Possibly Probably
pocketnaomi's "Life Cycle of the Flowers" "Vanguard" if -- we have time to
learn it if we get started now. (1:39 /me waves gratefully to
cflute.)

Date: 2008-04-21 06:29 pm (UTC)If you can get me some kind of recording of _The Merry Man and His Maid_, that'll help me get up to speed on it somewhat. That and _Toolmakers_ are the only two that aren't thoroughly familiar already.
I'll think about what other harmony-friendly stuff I know that we might include as well, okay? When my brain is more awake, that is...

Date: 2008-04-22 05:15 am (UTC)Merry Man (I Have a Song to Sing, O!) is in my CD collection; you can find it by following links from savitzky.net / audio (Not linked because I don't own the copyrights, and I'm trying to keep it out of search engines)
I'll try to convert the oggs to mp3 as well, probably sometime tomorrow.
