Still somewhat out of it

Still feeling vaguely depressed and out of it, in spite of a reasonably productive day.

Walked around the Rose Garden in the morning, and went out shopping in the afternoon. Two new Panasonic DECT handsets at Fry's: neither exactly matches our base unit and existing phones, but since they're compatible it doesn't matter. One's for Colleen's desk in the bedroom, and one for her chairside table in the Living Room. That one is white, which matches the table. Four bags of coffee at Barefoot: half for us, and half for the Wolfling to take up with her as gifts. A pair of 2-person emergency kits at Bed, Bath, and Beyond: they're probably a little cheaper this month, and I had thoughtfully provisioned my bag with 20%-off coupons because I knew that the store is next to Barefoot.

The air outside is foul with smoke. Worse this afternoon.

Not sure about the vague depression. It could just be related to the flower_cat's arthritis and muscle cramps -- having a wife apt to burst into tears from pain at odd moments isn't really conducive to happiness. Could be return to "normal" after the New Song Energy of Quiet Victories. Could be financial worries; that's always good for a nice spot of depression.

Could be the size of my to-do list, or something else that's unresolved. Damned if I know. I probably shouldn't worry about it too much; positive feedback (in the negative direction) is the last thing I need at this point. I seem to have it anyway. Bleah.

Sorry you're feeling down. *hugs* I've been going through some of that too along with feeling much more tired than is called for. Not sure if it's the weather, a post move let down or some other possible culprits. But I always like to blame the weather if it's at all possible :).

By amazing coincidence I've been shopping around for a new cordless phone system. I have some questions for you regarding the dect 6 phones. The first you sort of answered above but I'd like to confirm it. Are all dect 6 phones compatible with all base units? If so is this across different brands?

I'm leaning towards Panasonic due to hearing about their great reliability. Have you been happy with them? Which models do you have (base unit and handsets)? Are they comfortable? I also want the answering machine but unfortunately Panasonic's phones with answering machines don't have a number readout. Do you have a built in answering machine and if so has this been a problem for you? There is a Vtech I like the looks of and it does what I want but I just don't know if I can trust the quality. The only Panasonic that has all of the features I like is a 5.8 and (from what I read, security wise) I'm not sure that is as good an idea.
Whew! Don't mean to overwhelm with questions... just answer what you can when you can.

*hugs* Could well be the weather, and the pall of smoke from all the fires. Or it could be something else; I haven't figured it all out yet.

I have no direct information about compatibility, but the Panasonic handsets I bought today list only Panasonic base units. I'd be wary about mixing brands, though it might be possible. Since there's a limit of six handsets per base unit, you may as well buy a complete set unless you're very sure you won't need more; it's more expensive to buy the add-ons individually.

So far I'm happy with the Panasonics, the base unit I have is the KX-TG9331, and it's compatible with at least two other families of Panasonic handsets. The 9341 base unit has a speakerphone. There are very few controls on the base unit because you do everything from any handset, either via the menu system or directly with numeric codes.

The intercom feature is particularly convenient -- that's why we ended up getting two more handsets. I think that's only available on DECT phones.

I was rather unhappy with the Uniden 5.8MHz phones that the Panasonic set replaced; the worst misfeature was the fact that you couldn't just pick up a call on another handset; you had to transfer it from the first. With the Panasonic phones you just hit the "talk" button to join whatever call is in progress, or you can page someone specific with the intercom.

They do have a built-in answering machine, which works fine, but at some point I'm going to replace it with software (Asterisk) on the fileserver.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_access_profile says that any handset should work with any base station, at least for making calls. Advanced features might *not* work, though.
