Wasted morning

Happy Bastille Day. One of the machines chaoswolf has connected to the wired ethernet picked sometime last night to start spewing garbage onto the network. As in, causes fileserver's ethernet to go down and sometimes causes Linux boxen to kernel panic from overflowing network buffers, garbage.

Naturally, unplugging devices from the ethernet hub wasn't the first thing I tried, so I ended up wasting an hour or so rebooting the fileserver (and waiting for an fsck; it's amazing how long it takes to check a 384GB partition), plus another hour or so rebooting the gateway, replacing the fileserver's network card, running ping and traceroute on various machines, swapping ethernet cables, and so on.

And skipping breakfast, meaning I had to buy it at work. Color the bear grumpy.

I just tried to report a problem to COMCAST's customer service. I suppose that he might have just finished their orientation lecture and only had a few set scripts to follow - but he was totally clueless.

I should take my blood pressure right now....
