Bear went splat at about 11:00 last night, after noticing that I was falling asleep in my chair rather than actually typing anything. The fact that the [livejournal.com profile] flower_cat, and hence I, had been sleeping particularly badly Monday night probably had something to do with it.

This morning we both felt much better.

Today is (2x103+23)/23/33. Be there or be, um, cubical.

My phone number in Mass. used to be... well, I had to invent a notation, but I think it makes sense: string iteration:
Ii=x y (a) (except the y should be over the i=x)
means "concatenate iterations of expression a, in each one using the successive values of i from x to y".

So my number was Ii=0 2 [Ij=0 i (23 - i) ]
or
877-6666

Yes, I did get crank calls and weird questions. Why do you ask?

Even if we work in a cubicle, by this definition we can't be cubical. If we're not here (for all reasonable definitions of here) today, we won't be among those you are writing to.

Hmm--that means we missed the day which should be written the same, except 3 to the second power at the end.

(Pesky LJ--even copying your equation didn't get me superscript numbers...)

That number isn't all cubes, but does have the digits 2 and 3 in all places.

Almost certainly a coincidence, I should say. Why think otherwise? Did you request them?

In our case, our kosher butcher remarked that he had another customer whose number ended -6666. [livejournal.com profile] dunkelpig thinks somebody at the phone company said, "Hmm, $LASTNAME, that looks Jewish. Maybe finally these people won't scream at us about the Number of the Beast!"

Try getting the page source and copying the HTML. -- Or here, I've done it for you (after editing a bit). Copy this out of my reply as it appears; go into your own "Post", or an HTML editor, and paste it there:

<font size="4"><b><i>I<font size="2">i=0</font><font size="2">2</font> [I<font size="2">j=0</font> <font size="2">i</font> (2<font size="2">3</font> - i) ] </i></b></font>

It should look like this:

Ii=02 [Ij=0 i (23 - i) ]

I just realized that I made a mistake in the formula (and nobody caught it!). It should be

Ii=02 [Ij=0 2i (23 - i) ]

... which is produced by the HTML code

<font size="4"><b><i>I<font size="2">i=0</font><font size="2">2</font> [I<font size="2">j=0</font> <font size="2">2<font size="1">i</font></font> (2<font size="2">3</font> - i) ] </i></b></font>

Or, for mdlbear's formula... which is what you really wanted (blush), you make a superscript by putting the power between and :

23
becomes
23

For subscript, "sub" instead of "sup".
